khenkes.jpgKevin Henkes is an American writer and illustrator of children's picture books. He was born in 1960. In an interview with Scholastic, Mr. Henkes stated that many of his storylines are inspired by his family and the neighborhood where he grew up in Racine Wisconsin. His first book, "All Alone" was published when he was only nineteen years old and a freshman in college. The publishing of his first book inspired Mr. Henkes to continue with his passion, resulting in an additional 30 books being published very a span of 30 years.

He lives in Madison Wisconsin with his wife, artist Laura Dronzek, and their two children Max and Ruby.
Many of his books have a mouse theme- where mice are the main characters. Two of his most popular books are "Sheila Rae the Brave" and "Chrysanthemum".
